‘The Illuminated River: Bridges, Boats and Beyond’

Once again the Waddesdon Manor Learning team invited us to take part in their Christmas display along Miss Alice’s Drive for Christmas.\u00a0 In previous years themes have included pantomime characters and Christmas carols. This time the theme was \u2018The Illuminated River: Bridges, Boats and Beyond\u2019, celebrating the art that the River Thames has inspired. Each of the 5 schools involved were assigned a famous painting of the Thames to use as inspiration to decorate a flat packed reindeer! We were given Claude Monet’s ‘The Thames below Westminster’ (c.1871) and our 6th Form students took to the task with their usual enthusiasm and creativity. They promptly christened our reindeer ‘Arnold’ and he became a much loved and favourite fixture in the department\u00a0 during the painting process. It was with some sadness that we said goodbye to him as he made his way to his new home in the woodlands of Waddesdon Manor. We were delighted when, in the New Year, Arnold returned took school and can be seen in the entrance outside the library for the rest of the school year.
